How much do universities cost in Germany?

Mostly, public universities offer education free of charge, except a small administration fee of around 250 – 300 Euros. This needs to be paid before the semester begins, and since there are only 2 semesters per year, this needs to be paid only twice in a year. Other than this, there may be no other charges by the university.

How much German language do I need to know to come to Germany for study?

For German language courses, an intermediate to advanced level of the German language must be proved through the appropriate documents.

We recommend our students to pack appropriately for the weather. Germany has a cold climate on the whole, so students should bring the proper clothes. Apartments usually provide the bedding, but it’s helpful to bring along a light blanket. All the necessary documents as well as pass photos should be brought along (recommended 5-10 pass photos).

What do I need to do once I have arrived in Germany?

You are required to register in the city office (“Bürgerbüro”) with your new address. This will ensure that the government knows your address. You’ll also need to activate your Student Blocked Account, so that the total amount in your bank account can have a monthly expendable limit. Then, you would need to apply for the extension of your visa. Registration at the university and course selection etc. is naturally required as soon as you start with your classes.

Do I need to own a computer to study in a German university?

Although, it is entirely possible to study without a computer, it can be difficult in these times, especially if the study program that you want to pursue requires extensive use of a computer, for example making use of programming software etc. In this case, owning a computer can be very helpful in learning. Most universities have computer labs that can be utilized for printing course content, using online resources and emailing etc.

Do I need to share my room with other students?

Generally, the universities have career centers, which help students in making an appropriate CV, looking for employers and applying for specific positions. We will also provide with guidance in achieving a successful career. Students get the opportunity to look for work for 18 months (Job Search Visa) after graduating. You should make the most of this period in seeking employment.

Do I need to learn German for getting a job in Germany?

Without the knowledge of the German language your choices will remain restricted. It will be a great opportunity for you to start learning German while you study for your degree. You should learn a fair amount of the language to broaden your prospects.
